Conspiracies Are Afoot and Can Be Fun
Last night the Games Workshop site went down, and for those of you that do not read White Dwarf Daily, this was a planned maintenance downtime. I have received quite a few conspiracies about massive price hikes, and more dubious reasons for the down time, but when the server came up, everything appears to be fine.
Currently the GW facebook page and twitter pages are also down, or missing. I did not find any pre-warnings about this, but I am sure they will be back. Either way, maintenance is not much news, so I've included the White Dwarf Daily post on the subject below.
via White Dwarf Daily
Important Information:
Tonight from 7pm GMT the Games Workshop website will be offline for essential maintenance. A team of Techpriest Enginseers and their Servitors will be working through the night to ensure that it is back up and running by 6.30am tomorrow morning. Should you wish to place any webstore orders, please ensure that your transaction is completed well before 7pm - you wouldn't want your Citadel miniatures getting lost in the Warp. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages for further updates and information
Lets Have Some Fun With This
Just to keep things light and fun......... Go ahead and post up your most outlandish conspiracy theories about how this is not maintenance and is something much more devious.
Subjects that are out (because they really do not involve any creativity)....are price hikes.
Lets see what we can come up with.

The site will revamp, and will feature ALL PINK to herald in the new Sisters of Battle order of the Valley Girls
ReplyDeleteThus giving GW the ability to copy write the term "Plastics" as well ;)
DeleteThat would be a kick ass October realease!!!!!!!!
DeleteThe site was obviously down to install spyware on visitors systems so that they can better monitor the unauthorized use of the words Space Marine.
ReplyDeleteGreat!XD
DeleteGames workshop was about to actually release information about the Tau on their website last night. However, whatever great forces are keeping the Tau release from us have infiltrated GW, scrapped the Tau line and brainwashed all GW employees.
ReplyDeleteThis is more par for the course rather than being outlandish...
DeleteThe servers were bulked up in order to handle the massive amounts of awesome that the Chaos Daemons will bring from the warp. That, or Luther broke free from the prison deep within The Rock and in order to halt his vox transmission from getting out the servitors had to shut down all links....
ReplyDeleteDis' was da furst strike in da' Grot insuwreckshun!!!
ReplyDeleteMalal captured the server for erase every daemons of chaos miniature and replace them with flying cows army, just because the cows are black and white, the sacred colours of Malal XD
ReplyDeleteOk, now I'm exaggerating with Malal...
GW is considering to sue the Holy See over the use of words such as Ecclesiarchy and imagery copied from GW material. However, they are willing to settle, provided that they have a deciding vote in the upcoming papal elections.
ReplyDeletePope Kirby the First?
DeleteGW in charge of a Micro-principality?
Nuns (the hot ones) in spandex with guns?
"In the Emperor we Trust" on American Currency?
Jokes aside, I'm liking where this could go.
GW was told to take down the site... it was foreseen by farseers that should the site remain up, a hacker would get into the database... products would be lost to the Warp, the shareholders would be ruined, customers would be unhappy... For the future of wargaming, the website HAD to be taken down! And thus, for our sake, GW listened. No worries, Runes of Warding were put up during this downtime to better protect us in the future.
ReplyDeleteSquats are coming!
ReplyDeleteThe site was shut down to install new programing. Now every time you hit the check out button A banner appears saying 'Are you sure?' whilst we get a lovely visual of the Hypno Toad !
ReplyDeleteThe site was taken down to completely revamp it as Games Workshop a division of HASBRO.
ReplyDeleteThey are installing a new supercomputer called the W.O.P.R. But instead of Joshua the sentience will go by the name of Ward. Many things will change but firstly...all armies get USR- misogyny. Hatred vs any female model on the board.
ReplyDelete...and that black people have a flawed gene-seed.
DeleteThis just in..
ReplyDeleteAn internal power struggle in GW has caused the GW legal department to issue a cease and desist order to the other half for unauthorized use of trademarks and copyrights infringement.
Ha! +1
DeleteGW are planning to sue charity organisation Comic Relief for infringement of their squig intellectual property:

GW are making preperations to be taken over by the Gates of Antares. All models and articles in the renamed White Squat magazine (was White Dwarf) will feature Dark Space Corp Minitures! GW have realised this is the new dawn of gaming and have backed GoA who have since cancelled their Kickstarter funding.
ReplyDeletePs. An ocean full of salt is needed for this rumour lol
They had to remove a jquery script that would allow for sales.
ReplyDeleteSega actually bought Games Workshop and now there is going to be a Sonic The Hedgehog skirmish game release.
ReplyDeleteYou can have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, the chick Hedgehog and their human buddies vs Dr. Eggman in many different forms.
TAKE MY MONEY!!!!
DeleteIt seems, that GW FB page will not be back:

This can only mean one thing. GW has developed their own social media network: The Astronomicon.
DeleteMy guess is this was developed due to face books complaints about funky smells and personal hygiene.
Matt Ward overcharged the servers after downloading all the seasons of Battlestar Galactica
ReplyDelete"I just wanted some inpiration for the new Tau 'dex" was all he could blurt before being kicked in the ass
In a final flurry of insanity GW has finally decided to litigate itself for infringing on it's own IP!
ReplyDeleteo_O
They introduced a new bit of tech. They made it in finecast. It was full of holes and all twisted so it broke the site.
ReplyDeleteThey took it down to purge all mention of MARK WELLS.
ReplyDeleteAliens.
ReplyDeleteThe downtime was subliminal advertising for the Tau release. Following feedback from customers, the top brass at GW wanted a strategy for getting across the Tau that was not the usual video teaser. It was suggested as a joke that the Tau could be released for a couple of seconds on the site and then reversed to simulate the Tau tactic of jumping forward to shoot and then retreating. It was suggested that significant downtime would get us all talking about it and make it even more effective. Unfortunately as is often the case the top brass went for the joke suggestion.
ReplyDeleteThe author of Spots the Space Marine filed an injunction to get GW to take down their site which was successful. GW soon got the site back up after agreeing to allow the author to write other quality titles - "Spots the Angry Ork", and "Learn Your ABC the Adeptus Astartes Way". ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Pope dismisses, GW´s website is down...
ReplyDeleteChaos is approaching!!
Where´s the Star Child??
THANKS, OBAMA
ReplyDeleteDaemons? Any chance at all?
ReplyDeleteThe site is down for six months, and in six month's time it'll be down for six months... Oh wait, that's the Tau server.
ReplyDeleteActually it was a bunch of highly trained Royal Marine cybercommandoes with a few exchange officers from the USMC liberating the word "Marine" from GW IP. If you looked closely, you might have seen Spots.
Hownowbrowntau
GW actually released the models and previews for the new Woodelf Army Book. It crashed their servers instantly and the lost all their backup files for the rules. Their warehouses with the army books all caught fire. Back to the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteThe fallen have come! New free *cough* pdf updatefor codex chaos space marines, new evil dark angels models and rules!! Wooooo
ReplyDeleteThe Eldar have fallen and created the Chaos God Slaanesh! The violent birth of Slaanesh was so powerful it ripped a hole through the fabric of the universe and knocked the Games-Workshop site offline.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteTaking down the site must have taken some sort of tactical geniu- CREEEEEEEEEED!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid they actually do a price increase?
ReplyDeleteGrail Knights which were priced 2 days ago as 89 are 124$!!!
Did something legitimately happen, or is my browser showing me some country's pricing where they're getting bent over a barrel?
